Railroad Training Programs
Railroad operations and safety instruction programs are available as a low cost alternative to in-house rules departments or Class 1 railroad training schools. Classes and materials are tailored to meet the requirements of the customer and cover specific railroad operating practices. Programs for Train & Engine Service Employees
NORAC Rules - This
program consists of the required annual operating rules instruction &
examination and can also include a brief review of safety, airbrake and hazmat
rules.
Safety Rules - This
program is offered in conjunction with the NORAC rules class and covers topics
such as working around tracks & equipment, personal safety & health and
the safe way to perform jobs.
Hazmat Rules - Hazmat
instruction is available as a component of the NORAC class and outlines
paperwork, train placement, switching and emergency response.
Airbrake Rules - Basic
airbrake theory and operation is discussed, along with causes of common
problems. The various locomotive & train brake tests and inspections are
covered, and on the road troubleshooting as well. This class is offered in
conjuction with the NORAC class.
Programs for Train Dispatchers
NORAC Rules - This
program is similar to the annual NORAC class for T&E employees, but
includes a more in-depth review of the rules and the responsibilities of the
train dispatcher.
Dispatcher Training Program
- Extensive training is available for train dispatchers that includes NORAC
rules, dispatching procedures, and general railroad operations. Computer
simulations are available that recreate operations on an actual railroad
territory, or for use in the illustration of certain rules.
Programs for the Mechanical Department
NORAC Rules - Annual
rules instruction and examination with an emphasis on blue signal rules and
basic safety procedures.
Programs for Roadway Workers
Roadway Worker Regulations & NORAC Rules - This class covers the Roadway Worker regulations
and NORAC rules that govern track maintenance and the operation of track cars.
The examination allows for employees to be tested for knowledge of basic
Roadway Worker procedures or for annual qualification on the NORAC rules.
